If the News Is ‘Fake’…

Labeling the news as “fake” may be a bit of a stretch but today’s media is certainly not a reflection of reality.

Think of the typical evening newscast on television as an example. In a 30-minute time frame, you get about 23-24 minutes of news and 6-7 minutes of commercials. Of the 23-24 minutes of news, about 22 minutes consists of negative content, such as poorly behaving politicians, death, disease, and crime, while you might see 1-2 minutes of positive content, such as a heart-warming human interest story.

Bottom line: Sitting down for 30 minutes, you’ll get about 90% negative, 5% illusion, and 5% positive. This does not reflect reality.

Here’s the featured quote again:

If you can recognize that media messages are often inaccurate, and that these messages make the world appear as a terrible place with declining morality, then you can also recognize that the world is not such a terrible place and that there is hope for humanity. If you can recognize that media messages are often inaccurate, and that these messages make the world appear as a terrible place with declining morality, then you can also recognize that the world is not such a terrible place and that there is hope for humanity.
